Humidor Recap: Week ending November 3rd

If you haven't stopped by the shop lately, you are missing out! Our pipe cases are fully stocked with gorgeous pipes and new pipe accessories.
Our pipe sale is still going on as well, so now's the time to stop in!

Cigar Event

Next Saturday, November 9th, two cigars will go head-to-head and we'll declare one the winner!

You will be the real winner because we'll be offering specials on BOTH Alec Bradley New York and Alec Bradley Black Market all day long.

This week's featured cigars:

Have you tried Lot 23 by Perdomo Cigars? Smooth and mild, this beauty may be your next daily cigar!

You may not know SLR, but you probably know Saint Luis Rey - one of the most enduring brands in the industry. The SLR Gen 2 has been updated for today's cigar enthusiast.

Flavorful and complex, this is not your granddad's cigar!

Don't be afraid to try Ogre from Asylum Cigars. This big guy(7 x 70!) is packed with flavor, as well as style. If the Ogre is too intimidating, try Schizo, Straight Jacket, or one of the other Asylum cigars.

What happens when Torano ages cigars in barrels from Wilson Creek Winery? An amazing cigar that takes on characteristics of the award-winning Decadencia Chocolate Port! This is not a flavored cigar, this is the perfect blend of cigar and port!

CAO cigars never disappoint. Although they are well-known for making powerhouse cigars, the CAO Cameroon is a fantastic mild, creamy option.

Humidor Recap - Week ending October 27th

On Saturday, November 9th, two cigars will go head-to-head and we'll declare one the winner!

You will be the real winner because we'll be offering specials on BOTH Alec Bradley New York and Alec Bradley Black Market all day long.

This week's featured cigars:

Remember that $3 cigar that was a treasure to find because it was a great smoke at a great price? Ok, this isn't a $3 cigar. But at only $5.40, the 231 Rockhill by Cuban Stock is designed to be a high quality cigar at a price that can't be beat. The cigar starts with aged Dominican tobaccos and finishes with an Ecuadorian Corojo wrapper. It delivers an enjoyable sweet and spicy, medium-bodied cigar that doesn't disappoint.
Rolled with three year aged, Dominican tobacco and a rare Ecuadorian Corojo wrapper, this sweet and spicy cigar offers a pleasant, medium-bodied smoke. Purposely priced by Cuban Stock’s president to retail for around $5.00 each, the idea of this celebratory blend is, simply, to provide the best for less. - See more at: http://www.cubanstockcigars.com/231-rockhill/#sthash.fApdrcEN.dpuf

Leccia Black by Sam Leccia is rolled in the Dominican Republic and uses half a fire-cured tobacco leaf in each cigar. This makes it one of the most unique cigars on the market today.

Brick House by JC Newman is a gem of a Nicaraguan puro. It landed a spot on Cigar Aficionado's Top 25 Cigars of 2010 and earned a rating of 92.

Humidor Recap - Week ending October 20th

For more than 10 years, Cascade Cigar has sent shipments of cigars to soldiers serving overseas. These are large shipments, at least 1,000 cigars each, largely donated by our generous customers. This is a thank you photo from the most recent recipients.

Now on to this week's featured cigars!

For many cigar smokers, Padron is the king of cigars.

Padron Anniversario 1926 and Padron Anniversario 1964 take all of the best aspects of Padron cigars and then make them even better.

We now have BOTH the 1926 and 1964 in stock.

Alec Bradley Fine & Rare cigars are extremely limited editions. Luckily, we have both 2012 & 2013 in stock right now!

Ashton VSG, or Virgin Sun Grown, is blended by Carlos Fuente, Jr. for Ashton using aged Dominican tobacco. The wrapper, grown exclusively for this cigar, imparts rich flavor. We now have several sizes in stock.

All Fuente Hemingway cigars are crafted in the classic figurado shape. These cigars are legendary and should be on every cigar smoker's "must try" list.

If you were making a list of cigars everyone should try at least once - what would it look like?

The Cigar Family Charitable Foundation has released this year's Toast Across America Cigars:

1 Fuente Destino al Siglo Anniversario
1 Diamond Crown Black Diamond

These are great cigars for a great cause - get yours before they are gone!

Humidor Recap Week ending October 13th

Yesterday, we invited Cary Bischoff, cigar representative for Boutique Blends cigars, TL Johnson cigars, and 7-20-4 cigars, to hang out in our humidor and tell our customers about the great cigars he represents. If you've met Cary, then you know he's a great guy to have around!

Humidor Recap - Week ending October 6th

Once again Opus cigars have landed in the humidor. We recived NINE boxes in this shipment! The Opus cigars join Ashton VSG, Padron Anniversary (1926 and 1964), Don Carlos, Lost City, God of Fire, Alec Bradley Fine and Rare, and other highly sought-after cigars.

The dilemma: You want a very good cigar at a very good price that you can smoke every day.
The solution: Try a Perdomo Fresco. These are Perdomo, so you know you are getting a quality cigar. Available in a Connecticut or Maduro wrapper, these are bundle cigars that don't taste like a bundle cigar.

Romeo y Julieta, like the Cohiba we also featured this week, have both a Cuban original and a Dominican counterpart. The Romeo y Julieta Reserva real continues the line's well-earned reputation for creating smooth, creamy cigars with flawless construction.

The Partagas Series S Esplindido is a short, superb figurado. The Cameroon wrapper, Dominican filler, and Mexican binder combine to produce a wonderfully flavored cigar.

Sometimes you just want a good, solid cigar that hits the spot without attempting any tricks or fireworks along the way. The Alec Bradley Family Blend is that cigar. This cigar has good construction, and creamy flavor. It is a great all around go-to cigar.

Cohiba is considered a classic cigar for good reason. Most of us immediately think of the Cuban Cohiba, which is legendary in both history and reputation.

The Dominican Cohiba, sold in the U.S., is a cigar every cigar lover should try at least once. They are richly flavored, medium-bodied cigars, suitable for all types of cigar smokers.

Cain Maduro cigars are the type of cigars that are best enjoyed after a full meal. Although they are quite strong, the strength is never harsh. Full flavored and full bodied, the Cain Maduro is a great choice for experienced cigar smokers looking for something new.

Start your weekend with a creamy, slightly sweet cigar from the Nat Sherman Host series. This line was one of Nat Sherman's favorites and it never disappoints.

Humidor Recap - Week ending Sept. 28th

Have you liked our Facebook page yet? If you aren't a Facebook user, we can also be found on Google+ and Twitter. We don't play favorites, so you'll see the same posts across all the social media sites.

Our October cigar event will feature Boutique Blends. We love those guys (and their cigars!) and are excited to have them back again so soon!

December, and the holidays, is still on the horizon, but the cigar companies are already sending us this year's special gift boxes. If you are you the type to get your holiday shopping done early, we can help.

This week's featured cigars

Medium bodied and packed with flavor, the Camacho Criollo is a bold Honduran puro that will knock your socks off (in the good way!)

Each size of the Sencillo Black line has its own unique flavor. Don't be fooled by the Gigante's size - it is actually the mildest of the line. The Gigante is a great choice for fans of big, full flavored cigars who want something smooth enough to smoke every day.

JFR stands for "Just for Retailers" - these big cigars are creating a big splash in our humidor. Big and flavorful without a big price tag.

Rich and full bodied, San Cristobal cigars feature complex flavors and beautiful construction.

Have you tried the Alec Bradley Prensado yet? This gorgeous cigar is more than just a pretty face - it lives up to the Alec Bradley name.

This week's featured cigars

Have you tried a Sancho Panza Extra Fuerte yet? These gorgeous box-pressed cigars are a great choice for fans of spicy, full-flavored cigars.

Just look at this gorgeous SWAG cigar!!

Smoketoberfest is back!

The return of Smoketoberfest

This year, Cascade Cigar is proud to hold Smoketoberfest in support of our local Three Rivers VFW. Smoketoberfest will be held on Sept. 21st from 4pm to 8pm.

Tickets to the event are $25. ONLY 100 tickets will be sold.

Admission costs $25 and includes entry to the event, one beer, a delicious meal, and a goodie bag that includes several cigars.

Raffle tickets go on sale Sept. 1st. Raffle tickets are available for $2 each or $5 each. You do not need to be present to win these raffles. We will also be holding a bonus $10 raffle on the day of the event.

The beer garden will be open for this event only and you will have access to both the putting green and the horseshoe pits. In fact, we'll be holding putting & horseshoe contests for prizes.

What is Smoketoberfest?

Smoketoberfest began in 1997 as a way for Jan to throw a birthday party for herself and invite her customers. Always looking for a chance to help others, Jan decided that her birthday party would double as a fundraiser for the Oregon Food Bank. Smoketoberfest was an annual tradition for four years and raised more than $11,000 for the food bank, as well as barrels of food, diapers, shampoo and other toiletries.

Jan and Cascade Cigar have long history of supporting both active troops and veterans. Cascade Cigar has been a regular supporter of the Wounded Warriors Quad State Herf in New York State, the Northwest Veterans Motorcycle Club: Evergreen Chapter, the Veterans Motorcycle Club and the Golfing for the Guard Golf Tournament, among others.

Cascade Cigar has also been collecting and sending free cigars to troops serving in war zones since 2002, after a soldier serving overseas contacted Jan to purchase cigars. She immediately decided that she could never sell cigars to a soldier serving in a war zone. Instead, she began soliciting cigar donations from her customers. Over the years, Cascade Cigar has sent more than 10,000 cigars to troops overseas, with most shipments containing at least 1,000 for soldiers to share.

Our upcoming Alec Bradley Cigar Event July 20th, 2013

At Cascade Cigar, our monthly cigar events are fun for us, the cigar representatives, and (hopefully) our customers. Each event is a chance to introduce customers to a new cigar - one that may potentially be their new favorite.

Events are held in our walk-in humidor, and a cigar representative is usually on hand to talk to customers about that month's cigar.

If you are new to Cascade Cigar, or cigars in Portland, we are easy find and have our own large parking lot.

Once upon a time it was easy to see which cigar maker produced which brands (and this is still true with the older brands). However, newer cigar brands have many lines and it can be a challenge to understand who makes which cigar. Alec Bradley, for example, has many brands including Vice, American, and others. In honor of our cigar event this weekend, consider this a quick primer on Alec Bradley cigars.

Alec Bradley American

Alec Bradley American is a mild to medium bodied cigar, and was rated 89 by Cigar Aficianado. This is a great choice for Portland cigar smokers who prefer is lighter, but never boring, smoking experience.

Alec Bradley New York

Rated 91 by Cigar Aficionado, Alec Bradley New York was originally released only to New York cigar retailers. This bold cigar lives up to its namesake.

Alec Bradley Family Blend

The Alec Bradley Family Blend was the highest rated cigar in the world in 2010 - garnering an impressive score of 94 from Cigar Aficionado. This medium bodied cigar is a favorite in our humidor.

Alec Bradley Nica Puro

As the name suggests, this rich, medium bodied cigar is a Nicaraguan Puro.

Alec Bradley Black Market

Alec Bradley Black Market features Honduran Jamastran and Panamanian fillers, a Sumatra binder, and a gorgeous dark Nicaraguan Jalapa wrapper. These ingredients combined to produce "Best of the Best 2012" honor from The Robb Report and a rating of 90 from Cigar Aficionado.

Alec Bradley Vice

Box-pressed and featuring fillers from Mexico, Honduran, and Nicaraguan tobaccos, Alec Bradley Vice is a stunning medium bodied cigar, that provides lots of flavor without being overpowering. It was rated 92 by Cigar Aficionado.

Alec Bradley Connecticut

Nothing Alec Bradley does is boring, and their Connecticut cigar is no exception. Don't be fooled by its smooth brown wrapper - underneath it all is a mild to medium bodied cigar that still brings plenty of creamy flavor.

Alec Bradley Tempus

Many of our customers have fallen in love with the Alec Bradley Tempus for good reason. Rated 94 by Cigar Aficionado, the Tempus is a shining example of how amazing a small scale, boutique cigar can be.

Alec Bradley Prensado

With a Cigar Aficionado rating of 96 as well as being one of the Top 25 Cigars of 2011, the Alec Bradley Prensado is a "must try" cigar. This very full-bodied cigar showcases a Trojos Honduran wrapper and Nicarguan, Honduras, and Trojos filler.

Celebrating World No Tobacco Day

The World Health Organization, or WHO, has designated May 31 as World No Tobacco Day. At Cascade Cigar, we decided to have a little fun with the concept. If you do not want to smoke, then by all means, do not smoke. If, however, you are an adult who enjoys the occasional pipe or cigar, then we believe you should have the right to smoke.

We opened our Portland cigar lounge, normally $5 for a day pass, to everyone so they could enjoy their favorite cigar and reflect on what a sad world it would be without high-quality tobacco products to enjoy. A quick side note, our Portland smoking lounge is only open to cigars because Oregon law prohibits pipe smoking in smoking lounges.
We certainly had a lot of fun with the concept, and we think our customers did too. If you have not stopped by our lounge lately, be sure to check it out next time you are in the store. We are proud of our large walk-in humidor and extra-large smoking lounge.
We do not know if any of the other cigar stores in Portland did anything similar for World No Tobacco Day, but maybe next year we can all enjoy the day with cigar in hand! Our lovely pipe-smoking customers are not excluded; they just have to smoke their pipe at least ten feet from any entrance. Sorry guys!
